Shelter Child Care Program Supports

💛 Why Trauma-Informed Child Care Matters
Children experiencing crises—such as violence, displacement, or sudden shelter transitions—are at a heightened risk of having their developmental and emotional needs overlooked. In the face of instability, signs of developmental delays or stress responses can go unnoticed, leading to long-term impacts on a child’s mental health, education, and social wellbeing.
That’s why our team is trained to provide trauma-informed, intentional, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate care —helping each child feel safe, supported, and seen. We work closely with shelter staff and families to ensure that no child falls through the cracks.

At Friendly Times Community Connections (FTCC), we know that families living in shelters often face urgent and complex challenges—and quality child care shouldn’t be one of them. Our Shelter Child Care Support Program provides trauma-informed, compassionate care for children aged 0–12, with services designed to meet families exactly where they are.
We proudly partner with shelters across the GTA to offer:
🧸 Emergency Child Care Support – Coverage for critical appointments like court appearances, doctor visits, job interviews, housing viewings, and more
👩🏽🏫 Child Care Programming – On-site and referral-based child care designed with safety, consistency, and emotional security at the forefront
🌈 Special Needs Consulting – Support for children with developmental, learning, or behavioral needs through trauma-informed strategies
☀️ School Break & PA Day Camps – Fun, inclusive programming that gives kids a chance to be kids during holidays and school breaks
All care is delivered through a trauma-informed lens, with a focus on emotional regulation, safety, and developmental healing.
